Position Summary:
The position will be responsible for geotechnical site assessments including logging of soil borings, test pits, site inspections, installing piezometers, construction quality control/assurance inspections etc. Candidate must also have the ability to manage a heavy workload and travel as needed. Candidate should be able to meet time sensitive deadlines and carry out multiple priorities simultaneously. Prior experience with geotechnical field investigations in the energy sector is a plus.
Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:
Assisting Project Managers with efficient execution of project scope of work on time and within budget.
Performing field investigations including supervision of subcontractors performance of field services for field investigations including geotechnical drilling, test pits, soil, air, and groundwater sample collection, construction materials testing and inspections, and related work. Use of hand excavation tools including hand-augers, dynamic cone penetrometers, shovels, hammers, etc. (Training will be provided for use of hand-operated equipment).
Performing construction materials inspections and testing during construction QA activities. (Training will be provided).
Preparing daily field reports and notes for submittal to project managers and engineers.
Prepare Health and Safety Plans (HASP) and excavation plans, submit 811 one calls, and perform other office tasks supporting projects.
Coordinate with project managers and engineers for execution of project work.
Supervising subcontractors during drilling and construction subcontractors to ensure they follow defined work plans and scope and in a Safe manner in accordance with client and project requirements.
Written documents including preparing spreadsheets or similar documents for data organization and documentation for daily report preparation.
Work with project team to ensure execution of projects involving geotechnical related soil and groundwater investigations and for compliance remediation activities in accordance with defined regulatory programs.
Ability to work independently with diverse staff in the office and non-office settings and to be flexible to perform support Project Teams for field and data organization.
Serve as client liaison in the field and field lead for Oil and Gas, Energy and Renewable Energy clients.
Successfully complete tasks independently and in a leadership role in small groups.
Must demonstrate a positive and professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees.
Regular travel and overnight travel to project sites for field work, meetings, or other activities is required.
Other duties may be assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- An Associates degree in Engineering Technology, Geology, or Environmental Science or similar degree is required. A Bachelor's of Science degree in Civil or Geotechnical or Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or similar degree from an 4-year, accredited University is preferred..
- 1 to 5 years of experience with implementing work associated with:
Site investigations and collection of field data. Experience in geotechnical investigations and working for Oil and Gas and Energy clients is a plus;
Construction quality control/ assurance at project sites in the industries of commercial, energy, manufacturing, or oil & gas.
Position requires Independent fieldwork and leadership of field teams, as well as subcontractor oversight.
Successful track record of supporting project teams with technical skills and approach.
Valid US. Driver's License.
Ability to travel and perform field work at various job sites within US, primarily Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma (up to 100% of time in a given year).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform field work in a variety of outdoor environments and weather conditions.
- Ability to walk on uneven terrain and hike up to 5 miles per day.
- Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, bend, and climb for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, and transport field equipment weighing up to 40–50 pounds.
- Ability to safely operate in remote locations, construction sites, and environmentally sensitive areas while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work Environment / Environmental Factors:
- Ability to work around vegetation, wildlife, insects, and varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, rain, mud, and dust.
