The Opportunity

Tetra Tech is seeking a driven geotechnical or civil engineer with ability to lead our Engineering and Construction Inspection and Testing Practice, based out of our Glen Mills, PA location.

Join a dynamic team of entrepreneurial-focused individuals that Lead with Science to deliver high-quality and technology-enabled consulting solutions for more than 50 different clients spanning federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as the commercial sector.   Work collaboratively with an integrated, multi-disciplinary team of more than 100 local professional and technical staff and across Tetra Tech’s international enterprise to grow the impact of your career.

Position Summary

This individual will have a leadership role in our operation and be responsible for the execution of existing projects/contracts, management and development of professional engineering and construction inspection technician staff, and growth of the engineering practice in the greater Philadelphia area and northern mid-Atlantic US region.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of successful consulting engineering, client development, and strategic planning to foster organizational growth.  

Essential Job Functions

The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:

•    Supporting project and business development activities, proposal and budget development, strategic planning, building relationships with existing and potential clients, and managing client interaction;
•    Provide high level consultation to clients; 
•    Manage and develop staff, inclusive of staff training/mentorship and development;  
•    Manage geotechnical and construction inspection projects; 
•    Geotechnical engineering including coordination and supervising SPT boring and rock core drilling, subsurface evaluations and preparation of geotechnical subsurface investigation reports, foundation evaluation (e.g., foundation types, bearing capacities, settlement analyses, etc.), slope stability evaluation, flexible and rigid pavements; 
•    Perform construction inspection and testing team (soil, concrete, masonry, structural steel, spray applied fire proofing, etc.), preparation/review of field reports, geotechnical field consulting, and evaluation of adverse earthwork conditions;
•    Manage our geotechnical laboratory and able to conduct laboratory testing; Periodic travel to project sites for meetings, audits, or other activities.

Required Qualifications

•    10-20 years of relevant work experience.
•    Must possess, or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire, PA, DE, and NJ Professional Engineer (PE) licenses.
•    This position requires driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good standing is required.

Preferred Qualifications

•    Bachelors or Masters of Engineering, M.S. preferred
•    Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

•    Frequently carrying up to 25 pounds of equipment is a requirement of this position.

Work Environment / Environmental Factors

•    Occasional site/field work under variable weather conditions are expected.

Additional Information

•    Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM hours.
•    Occasional on-site meetings at client locations, job sites will be required.
•    Occasional overtime may be required.
•    Routine travel between Glen Mills, PA and Bear, DE offices is required.

Competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, inclusive of signing and performance bonus, as well as potential relocation expenses for non-local candidates are possible.
