Deputy Chief of Party Technical for Bangladesh Multispecies Biodiversity Conservation Activity
Tetra Tech International Development is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a Deputy Chief of Party Technical position on a USAID-funded anticipated Multispecies Biodiversity Conservation Activity program in Bangladesh. This would be a full-time position, based in Bangladesh for the life of project (anticipated five years).
Position Description: The anticipated 5-year USAID-funded initiative titled Multispecies Biodiversity Conservation Activity (MBCA) seeks to improve the protection of key wildlife species and their habitats in Bangladesh. Targeted species may include but are not limited to Bengal tigers, Asian elephants, pangolins, turtles, tortoises, sharks, and rays. USAID has identified the following strategic objectives as areas of focus:
1. Mitigate threats to wildlife and ecosystems,
2. Reduced consumer demand for wildlife,
3. Improved wildlife management and political commitment, and
4. Enhanced safeguards and protection of natural resources and wildlife.
The DCOP - Tech will be responsible for overseeing effective coordination and technical integration of activities during project implementation. Reporting to the Chief of Party (COP), the DCOP- Tech will support the overall technical vision of the program and ensure quality and timely achievement of all project outcomes. The DCOP will liaise with partners, civil society organizations, and communities, as needed.
Responsibilities:
* Oversee planning, coordination, and day-to-day implementation of technical activities in partnership with technical team members and the COP;
* Provide technical expertise and support annual work planning and adaptive management of the project as needed in accordance with the project’s objectives and targets;
* Assist in coordinating project implementation, providing support to personnel and subcontractor management, and efficient budgeting and financial management, as needed;
* Ensure coordination between project teams on implementation of technical activities;
* Evaluate and document project progress and lessons learned;
* Assume responsibility for quality control and timeliness of deliverables;
* Serve as the interim COP when the COP is not available.
Qualifications:
* Minimum of a master’s degree (or equivalent) in biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, zoology, or some other relevant discipline is required;
* At least ten (10) years of experience, preferably in Bangladesh, in the respective field of technical expertise; preferably in biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, and working on large donor- funded projects;
* A minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience on complex development/donor-funded programs in the Asia Region, preferably as Technical Specialist or DCOP for a USAID-funded project or equivalent;
* Experience designing and implementing programming related to wildlife conservation or enforcement, natural resource management, policy development, and/or wildlife crime and trafficking prevention, with a focus on institutional capacity development and best practices;
* Professional fluency in written and spoken English required, proficiency in Bengali preferred;
* Strong familiarity with the policy, social, economic, environmental, and cultural context in Bangladesh;
* Bangladeshi nationals are strongly encouraged to apply.
