Summary:

 
Tetra Tech is looking for a senior data scientist with knowledge and experience in developing machine learning algorithms, particularly in forecasting with data science toolkits such as Python and/or R. This position will develop scalable and modular machine learning models using both structured and unstructured data that will be deployed across sectors. The ideal candidate will be able to identify data mining opportunities that add value and provide insights outside of the standard analytical framework or scope of work. The person in this position will be a key communicator of analytical results and insights to various stakeholders across and outside of the company. It will require an advanced understanding of which data visualizations and techniques will be most effective in communicating insights to the business team. Experience working in the demand forecasting or supply chain domain is a plus.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Identify the appropriate modeling technique given a problem statement based on the availability, variety, and quality of data. 

  • Design, build, test and implement predictive Machine Learning models using a variety of techniques (e.g., GLM, Neural Networks, Tree-based learning methods).

  • Collaborate with client to align business requirements with data science systems and process solutions that ensure client’s overall objectives are met.

  • Create meaningful presentations and analyses that tell a story focused on insights, to communicate the results and ideas to clients.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with domain experts to identify gaps and structural problems.

  • Be the technical expert across multiple work streams and clients.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree or Ph.D. preferred).

  • 5 years’ experience with ML fields, (e.g. natural language processing, random forest, statistical learning theory). 

  • Expert level knowledge in one or more languages commonly used in data analytics (Python / R proficiency preferred).

  • Experience managing, validating, and manipulating large, complex datasets.

  • Comfort working with a dynamic, research-oriented group on concurrent projects.

  • Ability to communicate complex complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
