Job Overview:

We are looking for a Consultant to join Tetra Tech’s growing Evaluation and Research (E&R) Practice based in London. You will join a dynamic and multidisciplinary team who are passionate about learning and accountability.

The role's main purpose is to provide technical support to a range of evaluation and third-party monitoring assignments and ensure the delivery of high-quality research deliverables. You will take responsibility for individually undertaking a variety of evaluation and research tasks, and you will need to liaise and work with other team members and teams, who may be both internal and external to Tetra Tech. You will assist with the design of research methodologies in the course of providing evaluation and research services and high-quality deliverables for our clients. You may also have line management responsibilities.

Main Duties:

  • Take responsibility for leading on specific parts of complex evaluation assignments and delivering on smaller assignments.
  • Effectively applying the technical knowledge of evaluation approaches and mixed methods that are most appreciated by clients. These include quantitative and qualitative research design and analytical techniques that can be used for a wide range of evaluation and ex-ante impact assessment assignments.
  • Demonstrate technical excellence by producing client-ready deliverables in line with the client's needs, as confirmed by senior managers and directors.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, suppliers and vendors.
  • Assist in preparing bids for tenders and participating in wider business development activities both within the E&R Practice and across other parts of the business.
  • Work effectively as a team player to gain the confidence of other team members.
  • Be an ambassador for Tetra Tech in the market and promote our interests and reputation.
  • Line manage more junior members of staff.
  • Proactively manage client /stakeholder /team relationships, ensuring that project partners and individual contractors /external consultants are effectively identified and managed to deliver high-quality inputs and outputs that meet the client’s expectations.

Aptitude and skills:

The successful candidate will bring a wide range of experience in approach and methodologies for research and evaluation, working independently, with consultants and partners based in the UK and internationally. As a Consultant, you will work on donor funded projects in international development, across a range of evaluation and research areas. To be successful in this role, you will have acquired solid project management experience on donor funded projects – specifically:

  • Experience of the design and implementation of evaluations of programmes for either a donor or a supplier, ideally a UK donor.
  • Expertise in the design and application of strategic approaches to third party monitoring.
  • Knowledge of how to carry out analysis of quantitative or qualitative data.
  • Expertise in people and consultant management.
  • Excellent written and communications skills.
  • Strong client relationship and management skills.
  • Demonstrate an ability to manage your own tasks and deliver quality work on time.
  • Good knowledge of a range of software applications including MS Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; and coding software such as NVivo, STATA, Dedoose. 
  • Experience of adaptive governance and climate resilience programmes would be beneficial.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate qualification in business, management, social sciences or in a technical/ professional field of relevance; and a postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
  • Experience in research and/or evaluation of policy, programmes, and/or services, or evaluation experience in the field of international development and/or public policy, is a distinct advantage.
