The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is seeking a Construction Technician to support roadway and bridge construction projects in Brighton, Michigan, and throughout the Detroit Metropolitan Area, including regions bounded by Lansing, the Ohio border, I-69, and eastern Michigan. This role provides the opportunity to contribute to transportation infrastructure projects through field inspection, documentation, and collaboration with project teams to ensure construction work meets contract requirements.

Position Summary:
The Construction Technician performs field inspection and documentation for roadway and bridge construction projects. This role supports project teams by verifying contractor work, maintaining accurate construction records, and ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements.

Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
    • Perform daily inspection and documentation of roadway and bridge construction activities to ensure compliance with project plans and contract documents.
    • Maintain detailed daily reports of construction progress, including contractor and subcontractor activities.
    • Measure, calculate, and document quantities of construction materials and installed work.
    • Monitor construction activities to verify quality, safety, and adherence to project requirements.
    • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, subcontractors, and clients.

Required Qualifications:
    • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
    • Basic understanding of construction drawings and associated contract documents.
    • Basic computer proficiency for documentation and reporting.
    • Ability to work effectively with supervision and coworkers while contributing positively to the work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
    • Two or more years of roadway and bridge construction inspection experience.
    • Experience working on Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) projects.

Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to perform fieldwork in varying conditions and on uneven terrain.
    • Ability to walk, stand, and perform light to moderate physical activity, including occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
    • Frequent use of survey equipment and tools.

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:
    • Combination of office and outdoor settings with variable weather exposure.
    • Moderate noise levels and occasional work on uneven terrain.
    • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Employment Type: Full-time
Office Location: Brighton, Michigan; Project Area: Detroit Metropolitan Area, including regions bounded by Lansing, the Ohio border, I-69, and eastern Michigan
Schedule: May require protracted or irregular hours depending on project schedules and seasonal construction demands.
Travel Requirements: Local travel to project sites throughout the region may be required.
