The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is seeking a Construction Intern to join our Construction Group in Brighton, Michigan. This internship provides an opportunity for motivated students or early-career professionals interested in transportation and infrastructure construction to gain hands-on experience supporting inspection, documentation, and engineering tasks. You will work alongside experienced engineers and construction professionals while contributing to projects that support resilient infrastructure across the United States.

Position Summary:
The Construction Intern supports the Construction Group by assisting with field inspections, project documentation, and engineering support activities for transportation and infrastructure projects. This role provides practical exposure to construction oversight, reporting processes, and engineering design support while working collaboratively with project teams.

Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
    • Perform inspection of construction activities to verify work is completed in accordance with project plans and specifications.
    • Generate daily reports documenting contractor activities, material usage, and project progress.
    • Complete and/or assist with CADD drafting tasks.
    • Assist engineering staff with roadway and/or bridge design support tasks.
    • Support project teams with general construction documentation and administrative tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
    • Technical or Associate’s degree in a construction-related field.
    • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
    • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with Field Manager software.
    • Experience with MicroStation software.
    • Interest in transportation or infrastructure construction projects.

Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to traverse uneven or rough terrain and position oneself to operate field or inspection equipment.
    • Ability to occasionally lift and move materials or equipment up to 50 pounds.
    • Ability to climb ladders and access trenches or elevated areas when performing site inspections.

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:
    • Combination of office and outdoor construction site environments.
    • Exposure to varying weather conditions and seasonal work schedules.
    • Potential exposure to heavy construction equipment, hazardous materials, confined spaces, and elevated work areas.
    • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Schedule: May require protracted or irregular hours depending on construction schedules and seasonality.
Travel Requirements: Local travel to project sites may be required.
