4-10 years experience developing some or all of the following: comprehensive plans, mitigation plans, master plans, resiliency plans, land use plans and ordinances and resiliency and adaptation plans. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:


  • Experience participating on project teams. Although the position will work on team, the candidate will required some independent work and need to be able to function in that environment.
  • Experience with collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data in order to professionally compose sections of these types of plans with project and implementation focus.
  • Experience preparing technical and professionally written portions of public documents.
  • Experience participating and leading public meetings, stakeholder engagements and interviews.
  • Experience with ESRI products/GIS, as well as 3D or other complex visualization techniques.
  • Experience with Geodesign, spatial planning, and other emerging planning methods.
  • Experience in reviewing planning documents to aid in the development of community values.
  • Experience developing surveys, questioners, and the use of spatial surveys to validate community values.
  • Experience writing persuasive and competitive bid documents and proposals for planning related projects.
  • Experience in creating unique ways to engage communities in non-traditional manners.
  • A demonstrated ability to think innovative and critically in fast paced environments.
  • A demonstrated ability to speak extemporaneously within area of subject matter expertise.

   

Analytical skills related to qualitative and quantitative data related to community, economic, resilience and mitigation planning. Strong public speaking and writing skills. Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of community and regional planning. Work in a team environment while also functioning independently.  Ability to communicate effectively with clients, the general public, elected officials, business leaders and a variety of stakeholders. Multi-task and manage multiple projects.

 

Required - B.S degree in urban planning, regional planning, urban studies, resilience, landscape architecture, environmental studies, economics, geography, architecture, landscape architecture, or public administration.
Preferred - M.S. degree in one of the above listed majors. Submittal of a writing sample illustrating personal content and style of technical, marketing or planning documents.  Submittal of college transcript required. Preferred - American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Registered Landscape Architecture (RLA), GIS Professional (GISP), Certification in Floodplain Management (CFM), Project Management Professional (PMP),Certified Economic Development Professionals (CEcD) and/or other related certifications that may be applicable to planning and resilience.

 

Must be able to travel throughout the country to support project and marketing. Must be able to drive a motor vehicle and pass a motor vehicle records check. Participate on both driving and walking site tours throughout communities. Site tours of communities that may involve many different types of terrain and conditions. Work and travel to client locations is required. Some work in the evenings and weekend may be required. Required to drive to sites and meeting locations.
