The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Climate Change Specialist to provide short‑term technical expertise to the Tuvalu Australia Partnership for Quality Education (TAPQE).
This consultancy will focus on reviewing and strengthening climate change education materials for primary schooling, ensuring they are aligned with current priorities, practical for teachers, and culturally relevant for Tuvalu.
This assignment offers a unique opportunity to directly support teachers and schools in a small island context facing the impacts of climate change, by strengthening curriculum guidance, lesson materials, and implementation approaches.
The Program: Tuvalu Australia Partnership for Quality Education (TAPQE)
The Tuvalu Australia Partnership for Quality Education (TAPQE) supports improved education sector performance in Tuvalu by strengthening teaching quality, learning outcomes, and system capability. The program works closely with Tuvalu’s Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and Sports (MEHRDS), schools, teachers, communities, and other stakeholders.
TAPQE is delivered in a highly resource‑constrained environment and is strongly shaped by local context, culture, and the growing impacts of climate change. The program supports inclusive, equitable, and locally relevant education pathways for children in Tuvalu.
Scope of Work
The Climate Change Specialist will provide targeted technical inputs (up to 50 days total) to support the review and enhancement of climate change education materials.
Key activities include:
- Reviewing the existing Climate Change Teacher Guide (2023) and associated materials, including Google Classroom content.
- Assessing alignment with updated climate change topics and identifying gaps across year levels (Years 1–8).
- Developing an updated, practical draft Teacher Guide, including unit plans with selected lesson plans (3–5), simple assessment ideas and guidance across different year levels.
- Providing practical recommendations to support teacher use of climate materials, including realistic professional development and classroom support approaches.
- Developing clear implementation guidance to support effective rollout and uptake of revised materials in schools.
About You
You are a climate change and/or education professional with experience translating technical knowledge into practical, classroom‑ready guidance. You understand the realities teachers face and are motivated to produce materials that are usable, relevant, and contextually appropriate.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum review, education material development, or education‑focused technical assistance.
- Experience integrating climate change, environmental sustainability, or related themes into education or training materials.
- Experience working in international development contexts, ideally in the Pacific or small island developing states.
- Strong understanding of climate change and its relevance for Pacific communities.
- Excellent analytical and writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, accessible, and practical guidance.
- Strong cultural sensitivity and the ability to work collaboratively with education stakeholders.
