Civil or Environmental Engineering Tech (Landfill Construction Quality) – Goshen, NY or Woodbridge, NJ
The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is seeking a full-time Environmental Technician specializing in landfill construction quality assurance (CQA). This field-based position will be managed and staffed through our Goshen, New York or Woodbridge, New Jersey office. The selected candidate may be based near either office and will travel to project sites as assignments required.

Position Summary:
The Environmental Technician will perform field and office support assignments under the direction of experienced project personnel. Responsibilities will vary by project and may include landfill CQA monitoring, environmental sampling, field testing, equipment operation, construction support, data collection, and preparation of field documentation.
This role requires regular travel to project sites and the flexibility to follow contractor schedules, which may include variable hours and workweeks exceeding 60 hours during active construction periods.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist with office, field, and testing assignments under the direction of senior technicians, field managers, engineers, or project managers.
- Support landfill CQA monitoring and other construction-related field activities.
- Help plan and prepare for field assignments, including ordering job-specific supplies and organizing equipment.
- Maintain field and testing equipment in good working condition.
- Collect samples, field measurements, observations, and other project data in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintain accurate field activity logs, testing records, measurement data, and sample documentation.
- Operate field equipment and, when assigned and properly qualified, construction equipment.
- Assist with technical research and construction services.
- Communicate field observations and project information to internal project teams.
- Follow established health and safety procedures on every assignment.
- Work at landfills, hazardous waste sites, contaminated sites, and other locations where heavy equipment, contamination, or similar hazards may be present.
- Follow contractor work schedules, including variable shifts and extended workweeks that may exceed 60 hours.
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and related Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to follow established procedures and direction from senior project personnel.
- Ability to organize field data and prepare clear, accurate documentation.
- Positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships and contribute to project teams.
- Availability to travel to project sites and work variable or extended schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree coursework in engineering, environmental science, geology, construction technology, or a related discipline.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Previous environmental, construction, materials testing, sampling, or fieldwork experience.
- Familiarity with CQA activities.
Physical Requirements:
• Regularly required to sit and work at a computer for extended periods; occasional standing and walking within the office environment.
• Occasionally required to lift/move up to 10 lbs, with infrequent lifting of up to 25 lbs.
• Requires use of hands for typing, handling materials, and operating office equipment; vision abilities include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• May occasionally travel to field sites (approximately 10–30% of the time), which can involve walking on uneven terrain and slopes up to 2:1 or 3:1 grade.
• When in the field, must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including a respirator if required, and may need to meet medical clearance standards based on assignment.

• Travel between sites or offices may be required, with employees expected to operate vehicles safely under varying weather, traffic, and environmental conditions.
Additional Information:
• Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for local and regional travel to sites, Tetra Tech offices, and client offices, on an as-needed basis.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future. Pay: $26-31 an hour, commensurate with skill level, geography region and experience.
