Position Summary
Tetra Tech is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to support water-focused projects in Irvine, CA. Candidates will have the opportunity to indicate their preferred technical focus during the application process:
- Water Process & Treatment
- Water Supply (Wells, Storage, Distribution)
- Water Conveyance (Pipelines, Pump Stations, Transmission Systems)
Interns will assist with engineering design, technical analysis, and preparation of project deliverables while working closely with engineers and project teams.
Essential Functions:
- Assist with engineering calculations, design development, and technical analysis
- Support preparation of construction drawings, reports, and specifications
- Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with cost estimates
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers
- Support permitting and regulatory documentation
Participate in field visits or site assessments as needed
Water Process & Treatment:
- Assist with treatment process layouts and hydraulic profiles
- Support design of treatment systems (e.g., filtration, pumping, chemical feed)
Contribute to process calculations and technical evaluations
Water Supply:
- Support design of water distribution systems, wells, and storage facilities
- Assist with hydraulic modeling and demand analysis
Work on pipeline layouts and system planning
Water Conveyance:
- Assist with design of large-diameter pipelines and pump stations
- Support hydraulic calculations and pipeline alignment development
- Contribute to plans and profiles for transmission systems
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering field
- Basic understanding of civil engineering fundamentals
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to water/wastewater coursework or projects
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design tools
- Basic understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, or fluid mechanics
- Interest in pursuing EIT certification after graduation
