Position Summary:
The Civil Engineering Intern will assist in the design and permitting of land development and site design projects. Under the supervision of senior engineers, this position supports the preparation of plans, calculations, reports, and cost estimates, applying standard engineering practices to real-world challenges.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist in the design and permitting of land development and site design projects.
- Perform conceptual and detailed design calculations and analyses.
- Prepare detailed engineering reports and supporting documentation.
- Assist in developing construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Ensure adherence to standard engineering practices and project documentation requirements.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute work safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Third- or fourth-year student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Familiarity with relevant engineering codes and industry standards.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with MicroStation is a plus.
- Coursework or experience in land development, grading, and drainage design.
- Previous internship or co-op experience in civil or site design engineering.
Physical Requirements:
This role requires physical and sensory capabilities suitable for both office and field environments. Candidates should be able to sit, stand, walk, and climb for extended periods; occasionally lift up to 25 pounds; and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity, such as operating computers, reading plans, and inspecting sites. Clear verbal and written communication is essential, and the position may involve occasional bending, stooping, reaching, or climbing ladders or stairs.
Work Environment / Environmental Factors:
This position is primarily office-based but includes occasional field visits to project sites such as construction areas, treatment facilities, or outdoor environments. Fieldwork may involve exposure to weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. While standard business hours apply, some extended hours may be necessary to meet project deadlines.
