Responsibilities:

•    Conduct engineering related calculations and develop solutions and designs for various engineering and environmental projects.
•    Support and/or lead preparation of subcontract specifications, work plans, engineering reports, construction documents (plans and specifications), remedial designs and remedial action plans, engineering cost estimates, project documentation and deliverables such as memos, meeting minutes, and project status reports.
•    Conduct data analysis and data quality control of civil design data using sound engineering judgement.
•    Conduct field investigation, subcontractor management/oversight, and construction oversight of civil projects that include contaminated sites, landfills, industrial facilities, etc.  The position may require up to 25 percent field work and/or travel.  Able to travel during short (days) and long-term (months) for assignments.
•    Perform a range of tasks requiring utilization of scientific and engineering analytical techniques, in the development of cost-effective remedial strategies.
•    Work and coordinate with project team personnel.  
•    Perform technical functions on projects and possibly direct the technical efforts and guidance on engineering and construction projects, including CADD/GIS operators, designers, technicians, and field personnel.
•    Assist with quality control and assurance.
•    Assist in developing descriptive charts, figures/maps, tables/matrices, and presentations.
•    Participate in technical presentations with clients.
•    Manage multiple projects/several independent, concurrent tasks.
•    Adhere to established schedules for completing field tasks and reports.  Maintain detailed documentation of field activities. Field work often involves extended hours on site.
•    Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, regulations, and industry standards.
•    Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
•    Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
•    Additional duties as required.
 

 

 Qualifications:

•    Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with experience in a civil engineering role required.  Master's degree is a plus.
•    Five to ten years of experience in the field of civil engineering.
•    Professional Engineer License (PE) is preferred.
•    Willingness and ability to travel as needed, approximately 25%.
•    Intermediate understanding of the following areas of civil engineering: site grading and earthworks design, cut/fill volumes, geotechnical design, soil mechanics, hydrology, hydraulics, pumps and piping systems, geochemistry, site closure, cover designs using soil and/or geosynthetics, cost estimation, sampling, environmental regulations, remediation, and environmental investigations and remediation.
•    Demonstrated educational and relevant work experience showing analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
•    Candidate must be highly motivated, self-starter who wants to further establish their career in civil and environmental engineering.
•    OSHA Construction Safety, 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and current 8-hour refresher training are preferred.
•    Due to contractual requirements, must be a US Citizen.

This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

•    Potential exposure to natural (e.g., poison ivy, ticks), physical, and chemical hazards.

Field work will primarily be anywhere in the United States but is based on client needs, so, while not routine, the ability to travel and work remotely and on weekends or extended hours (as needed) is required.  

Language & Communication Skills: Candidates should be fluent in the English language and possess excellent verbal/written communication skills. Candidates must be able to professionally interact with clients, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, professionals, and the public. Report and proposal writing for a range of projects is required. Public speaking is encouraged, and facilitation skills are a plus.

•    Should possess strong organizational skills, excellent self-start/leadership skills, and be client focused.
•    Should have effective time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
•    Must be computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), experience with ArcGIS and/or AutoCAD (AutoCAD Civil 3D) a plus.
