Project Summary: 
Tetra Tech is implementing the multi-donor funded USAID-administered Water Energy for Food (WE4F) South and Southeast Asia (SSE Asia) Regional Innovation Hub through June 2025.  The Hub from its offices in Bangkok, Thailand and Delhi, India supports 41 innovators to scale their business operations and improve livelihoods of over 1.3 million farmers in nine countries across SSE Asia.

Position Summary: 

Tetra Tech is recruiting a Business and SME Development Specialist to support small and medium sized businesses in SSE Asia working in the water-energy-food nexus with business acceleration and scaling, by providing technical assistance and business advisory support and making industry connections. The position is full-time, and hiring is contingent upon USAID approval. Interested candidates can be based in Bangkok, Thailand or Delhi, India and must be a resident of SSE Asia. Applicants must be able to work in legally work in Thailand or India and no relocation assistance or allowances are provided. Regional travel will be required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support the design and implementation of technical assistance by mapping innovator needs, available resources and the program timelines. 
  • Deliver business advisory services and technical assistance to startups/SMEs with the objective to accelerate their business growth and achieve the WE4F-assigned business and impact targets such as more end-users, reduction of water consumption and more production of agricultural products. Technical assistance will be in the areas of
    • Market research
    • Business model development
    • Marketing and sales strategy development
    • Organization capacity development strategies
    • Business expansion strategies
    • Investment Readiness
    • Gender and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) integration
  • Review the companies’ business metrics and progress towards achieving WE4F targets.
  • Review investment readiness support for innovators. 
  • Evaluate, onboard, and manage external vendors for technical assistance support to ensure deliverables timelines and quality. 
  • Review and provide feedback on performance-based milestones submitted by WE4F grantees.
  • Support the development of knowledge products, collection of performance indicators and preparation of communication pieces
  • Conduct any other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or Bachelor's degree with seven years of experience) in business administration, economics, finance, international development, or related field. 
  • At least five years of relevant work experience in supporting startups/SMEs in SSE Asia, especially in business acceleration, adoption of agricultural technologies, investment readiness, and market penetration/expansion.
  • Fair understanding of the private sector investment process and venture capital, preferably with experience in SSE Asia.
  • Strong analytical and research skills to understand the business needs of startups/SMEs
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to motivate and collaborate with others to achieve team goals.
  • Fluency in English (reading, writing and presentation skills)
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills

Valued Qualifications:

  • Prior experience and/or knowledge of integrating ESG, gender, and BoP into SME operations
  • Fair understanding of Water-Energy-Food nexus challenges and opportunities
  • Understanding of policy and regulatory activities conducive to a private sector-driven ecosystem
