The Program:
Australia Assists is an Australian Government program that deploys skilled humanitarian specialists to support multilateral agencies, governments, civil society and communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and conflict. Australia Assists’ Goal is to: Save lives, alleviate suffering, and maintain human dignity during and in the aftermath of conflict, disasters and other humanitarian crises, and strengthen preparedness for the occurrence of such situations. The program’s Objective is: Targeted deployment of humanitarian expertise that meets the priorities and needs of Australia's multilateral, bilateral and civil society partners and advances Australia's international humanitarian priorities.
The Role:
Reporting to the Deployments Manager, the Deployments Coordinator oversees the coordination of mobilisation activities, including medical assessments, travel arrangements, and uniform provision. Serving as the primary contact for deployees throughout their deployment, they manage end-to-end logistics and ensure all operational and administrative requirements are met. The coordinator liaises with the host organization to facilitate smooth operations, monitors deployee performance, and assists with reporting. Additionally, they refer deployees to relevant services as needed, ensuring comprehensive support during the deployment process, until their return.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate day-to-day deployment activities, including mobilisation, support during deployment, and return processes.
- Arrange pre-deployment logistics such as briefings, medical clearance, travel, uniform issue, and other administrative requirements.
- Provide end-to-end support to deployees and act as the main point of contact for deployment-related matters.
- Liaise with host organisations to support smooth deployment arrangements and resolve routine operational issues.
- Monitor deployment records, wellbeing checks, and compliance requirements, and maintain accurate information in relevant systems.
Selection criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as logistics management, public administration, project management, business administration, social sciences, or a related field, desirable.
- Previous experience (typically 3+ years) in logistics, travel coordination and administration, or similar coordination roles.
- Coordinated tailored end-to-end deployment lifecycles, ideally in an international development and/or humanitarian and/or emergency context.
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with government agencies, host organizations, and service providers.
- Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality service and meeting program objectives.
- Demonstrates professionalism, pride in work and meeting deadlines efficiently.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and persistence through challenges.
