Tetra Tech is adding an Architectural Designer II to our Architecture team. This position may be based in Detroit, MI; Seattle, WA; or Virginia Beach, VA, and offers a hybrid work arrangement with a minimum of three days per week in the office and up to two days of optional remote work.

Position Summary:
As an Architectural Designer II on our production team, you will play an important role in transforming conceptual designs into detailed, coordinated construction documents. You will support multidisciplinary project teams throughout the design and documentation process, helping ensure accuracy, code compliance, constructability, and consistency across project deliverables.

This position combines creative design sensibility with technical proficiency and is well-suited for an architectural professional who enjoys collaborating across disciplines, developing detailed BIM models and documentation, and contributing to projects from early design through construction documentation.

Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:

  • Produce architectural drawings, building plans, sections, elevations, details, and BIM models throughout various phases of design and construction documentation.
  • Develop interior layouts, schematic designs, presentation graphics, and other project materials based on program requirements, client needs, and established design standards.
  • Perform site measurements and document existing conditions to support accurate design development and construction documentation.
  • Coordinate architectural models and documents with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other disciplines, incorporating consultant input and identifying potential design conflicts.
  • Apply applicable building codes, design standards, and regulatory requirements to project documentation and identify potential compliance concerns for review.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate, organized project drawings, models, files, and deliverables in accordance with established office and project standards.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, project managers, consultants, and other stakeholders to support client reviews, design meetings, project charrettes, and successful project delivery.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously, meeting established schedules and quality expectations while staying current with evolving architectural practices, materials, and technologies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Bachelor of Architecture, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in architectural design and production.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Working knowledge of architectural design production, drafting, and BIM-based project delivery.
  • Ability to produce accurate and organized architectural drawings and documentation.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required for this position. 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Architecture from an NAAB-accredited program.
  • Strong understanding of construction documentation, architectural detailing, and applicable building codes.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and rendering software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across architectural and engineering disciplines.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven project environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel periodically for project-related activities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and using a computer.
  • Ability to use computers, BIM/CAD software, and other standard office and design-production equipment.
  • Ability to participate in project site visits, including walking through active or existing facilities and conducting field measurements.

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:
This position primarily operates in a professional office environment with the opportunity for hybrid work. Project responsibilities may periodically require travel to active construction sites, existing facilities, or other project locations. Site conditions may include exposure to varying temperatures, noise, dust, uneven walking surfaces, and other conditions typical of construction and field environments.

Additional Information:

  • Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Flexible work arrangements, including remote, hybrid, or in-office work, may be available based on business needs and employee performance.
  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $75,000 to $95,000 annually. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, education, experience, professional licensure, technical expertise, and other job-related factors.
