We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Archaeologist with professional experience in cultural resources management within the United States. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in archaeological fieldwork and reporting, particularly within the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, or Southeast regions.

 

Salary will be commensurate with experience and range from $25-$28/hour.

 

Your Role:

·         Conduct archaeological monitoring in accordance with established protocols.

·         Make rapid assessments of any finds of potential archaeological interest.

·         Excavate finds as appropriate, identifying cultural artifacts and features.

·         Systematically record field information and communicate effectively with construction staff and supervisors.

·         Work closely with colleagues, take direction from supervisors, and coordinate with project managers.

·         Write clear and concise reports, using a computer such as a field iPad or GPS unit for capturing field data and notes, and communicate findings with co-workers and supervisors.

·         Track project time and report expenses for reimbursement using computer systems.

·         Perform excavation and surveys, recording field observations on digital media.

·         Ensure compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act during all fieldwork activities.

 

Qualifications:

·         Professional experience with cultural resources in the United States, with preferred regional knowledge of the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, or Southeast regions.

·         Completion of an archaeological field school or equivalent training.

·         Strong writing skills with the ability to complete field and post-field cultural resource forms/documents in a timely manner.

·         Proficiency with GPS (Trimble, Bluetooth with tablets) units, TerraSync, ArcGIS, and other computer-based programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

·         Ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 35 lbs.

·         Tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrains and in a wide range of weather conditions.

·         Willingness to perform manual labor, including excavation with shovels.

·         Experience with the identification and documentation of a variety of pre-contact and historic material resource types, and flora and fauna.

·         Current valid driver's license and ability to rent vehicles and safely operate a 4WD vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads.

 

Other Requirements:

·         A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.

·         Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

·         First Aid/CPR training preferred.

 

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

·         Has ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 35 lbs. and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions.

·         Performs manual labor including excavation with shovels. 

·         Availability to work extended field rotations from5 to 10 days at a time.
