Your Role:

Tetra Tech Inc., an industry leader and nationally recognized engineering and consulting firm, is seeking professional, motivated, and intelligent candidates to fill three Archaeological Field Technician roles for our Federal NEPA, NHPA, and Environmental Compliance and Permitting team. The candidate selected will become a part of the Tetra Tech Environmental Government Services cultural resources team and will conduct a variety of field, administrative, and project planning tasks to support DoD and other Federal contracts. Candidates may also be part of projects to support infrastructure, DoE, energy, and various other projects throughout the United States and its Pacific territories.
•    Support field projects to include participation of all data collection, field inventory, monitoring, evaluative testing, and site mitigation within multiple states (prior experience on the California and Pacific coasts and islands is highly desired).
•    Record archaeological sites and collect field data to be included in technical reports.
•    Work alongside tribal cultural specialists to record sites of cultural or religious significance to Native Americans.
•    Report on daily work activities to crew chiefs, field directors, and project management.
•    Coordinate with technical crew members, including field directors and crew chiefs, to complete assigned tasks. 
•    Perform archaeological survey and testing including shovel testing, pedestrian survey, and data recovery.
•    Other duties may be assigned to support field operations, reporting, and data/GIS management.
 

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. •    Ability to identify, record, and analyze archaeological artifacts, features, and sites.
•    Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures in remote locations and walk up to 10 miles a day in rugged terrain. Willingness to work field sessions up to ten days long.
•    Ability to carry field equipment, perform shovel testing, and navigate in remote environments.
•    Proficiency with electronic technology such as smart phones and tablets.
•    Ability to manage and catalogue artifacts and proficiency in collections management.

Education and Experience:
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology/Archaeology with a concentration in North American Archaeology or closely related field is required. 
•    Completion of an archaeological field school or have at least 2 years of North American or Pacific cultural resource management experience is required.
•    Prior experience conducting pedestrian surveys in the California and Pacific coasts and islands is preferred.
•    Direct experience with government agencies, DoD cultural resource regulations and projects, and the Air Force is highly desired.
•    Previous experience with GIS data collection and software highly desired.

This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This position frequently performs work in a field environment, with environmental hazards in unpredictable conditions. Field work will involve traversing uneven terrain and thick vegetation, remaining in a stationary position, digging, and walking for extended periods of time, and will require moving and positioning items weighing up to 50 pounds. However, the position may also require periods of work in an (remote) office environment. Note that office work can be fully remote.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  This work is principally performed in a field environment and the employee will be required to travel for field work to complete site investigation and data gathering. The employee may be required to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions as needed to maintain project schedules. Components of the work will also be performed in an office setting, from a home office or in a Tetra Tech office, depending on a candidate’s preference.

Language & Communication Skills: The employee must be fluent in the English language and able to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms. The employee may be required to make presentations at conferences and to clients, and the employee will be responsible for providing high quality written products that can include presentations, reports, and other materials to support efficient data collection and reporting.

Mathematical Skills: The employee must be able to perform basic math as needed to support data collection and project management (i.e., overseeing project logistics and providing accurate schedule and progress updates).


Other Skills: Instructions: The employee must have strong computer skills and be able to use common software needed for project management and product development (such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and Adobe Pro). Understanding and ability to use GIS software preferred.
