Join a technically leading team delivering complex groundwater and environmental programmes that directly influence national policy, resilience planning and ecological protection.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

You will play a key role within a multi-disciplinary water resources team, delivering high-quality hydrogeological expertise across nationally significant programmes including WINEP, WRMPs, Drought Plans and abstraction sustainability studies. The role spans groundwater characterisation, modelling, monitoring design and hydro-ecological assessment, supporting regulatory submissions and long-term water resource strategies.

Depending on your level, you will contribute to or lead technical delivery, provide assurance on complex outputs, mentor colleagues and engage directly with clients and regulators.

Your Impact in this position

You will influence how water resources are assessed, managed and protected across the UK. From designing and interpreting groundwater investigations to shaping abstraction strategies and capital investment decisions, your work will underpin sustainable resource use and environmental compliance. You will also translate complex technical data into clear, defensible insights that inform stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

Core Capabilities

Technical Delivery & Hydrogeological Expertise

  • Deliver and lead groundwater assessments including site characterisation, CSM development and hydro-ecological risk evaluation

  • Design and interpret monitoring networks, pumping tests and borehole investigations

Groundwater Modelling & Data Analysis

  • Develop, review and challenge numerical models (e.g. MODFLOW, FEFLOW)

  • Apply advanced data analysis using GIS, Python and other tools to support robust decision-making

Project Leadership & Assurance

  • Manage technical workstreams or act as project verifier on complex programmes

  • Ensure quality, consistency and compliance across deliverables

Stakeholder & Regulatory Engagement

  • Collaborate with regulators, water companies and catchment partners

  • Communicate complex outputs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

Asset & Programme Support

  • Provide technical input to groundwater asset design, optimisation and capital delivery

  • Support safe, compliant delivery aligned with industry standards and best practice

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

MSc in Hydrogeology (or equivalent experience) with strong expertise in groundwater assessment, modelling and water resource planning. Proven experience across WINEP, WRMPs or drought planning, alongside knowledge of UK regulatory frameworks. Strong communication, project management and analytical skills are essential. Chartered status and experience in hydro-ecology or AMP programmes are advantageous.
