As a Quantity Surveyor within our Cardiff Project & Cost Management team, you will contribute to the successful delivery of complex construction projects across sectors including Residential, Health, Defence, Blue Light, and Government. Working within a high-performing, multi-disciplinary environment, you will provide expert cost advice across the full project lifecycle—from feasibility through to completion—leveraging digital tools and modern methodologies.
You will collaborate closely with internal teams, clients, and contractors, becoming a trusted part of integrated project teams. This role offers exposure to projects ranging from small-scale developments to programmes exceeding £100m, with a growing emphasis on whole-life cost and carbon reduction.
Your Impact in this Position
You will influence key project decisions through accurate cost planning, robust financial control, and strategic commercial insight. By building strong stakeholder relationships and contributing to value engineering and risk management activities, you will help optimise project outcomes while maintaining quality, compliance, and cost efficiency. Your ability to operate both independently and collaboratively will ensure consistent delivery across a varied and dynamic portfolio.
Core Capabilities
· Cost Management: Develop feasibility studies, budgets, and detailed cost plans. Provide cost advice throughout design and construction stages
· Procurement & Tendering: Lead tender processes and evaluate contractor submissions. Support procurement strategies and contract negotiations
· Financial Control: Monitor project expenditure and prepare valuations and reports. Deliver clear monthly cost reporting to clients
· Contract Administration: Manage variations, final accounts, and contractual matters. Provide guidance on NEC, JCT, and other contract forms
· Stakeholder & Site Engagement: Build strong relationships across project teams. Conduct site visits to monitor progress and quality compliance
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying (or related discipline), ideally with RICS accreditation or working towards it. Strong commercial awareness, analytical capability, and negotiation skills are essential. Experience with industry-standard tools (e.g. CostX, Excel) and sound knowledge of construction methods, contracts, and measurement standards (SMM7/CESMM3) are expected. A full UK driving licence is required; Welsh language skills are advantageous.
Working Environment
This role is based in Cardiff, with a hybrid working model typically involving 2–3 days in the office or on-site, and flexibility to work remotely. Travel to project sites across Wales and the Southwest is expected. We support flexible working patterns to balance project demands and individual needs.
