Purpose & Scope of the Role

This role focuses on the design and delivery of mechanical building services solutions across a diverse portfolio of complex projects, including refurbishment and new-build developments. You will lead projects from concept through to commissioning, ensuring high-quality, coordinated designs that meet client and regulatory requirements. Working both independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute across sectors such as commercial, healthcare, education, industrial and leisure, while also supporting project management, contractual processes and change control.

You will play a key role in delivering technically robust, efficient and innovative engineering solutions. From engaging with clients and contractors to mentoring junior engineers, your work will directly influence project success and team development. Your ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain precision in design calculations, and collaborate across disciplines will ensure consistent delivery of high-quality outcomes.

 

Core Capabilities

·         Technical Design Expertise: Deliver accurate, compliant mechanical designs across all project stages. Apply industry standards, modelling tools and engineering judgement

·         Project & Commercial Awareness: Manage projects end-to-end, including scope, risk and change control. Understand contractual frameworks and client expectations

·         Collaboration & Communication: Lead and contribute effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Confidently engage with clients, contractors and stakeholders

·         Leadership & Development: Mentor graduates and apprentices, supporting their technical growth. Promote best practice and continuous improvement within the team

·         Adaptability & Sector Experience: Work across varied sectors and complex project environments. Demonstrate flexibility to travel and support project delivery needs

 

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent), with relevant industry experience. Membership of a professional body such as CIBSE, IMechE or IET is expected, with Chartered status or progress towards it desirable. Proficiency in tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, IES or similar is advantageous, alongside knowledge of BREEAM, thermal modelling and engineering calculation software. Experience in sectors such as healthcare, education or defence is beneficial.

 

Working Environment

This role is based in Belfast, with a hybrid working model typically involving 2–3 days in the office and flexibility for remote working. Occasional travel across the UK and Ireland is required, with opportunities for short international assignments. Flexible working arrangements are supported to promote a healthy work-life balance.
