Purpose & Scope of the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Groundwater Site Engineer or Hydrogeologist to join a well-established and growing groundwater team, delivering complex resource evaluation and implementation projects. Working within a national geo-environmental business, you will support the technical delivery, management and development of groundwater services across high-profile frameworks.
The role combines site-based engineering expertise with hydrogeological insight, covering the full lifecycle of groundwater abstraction projects—from feasibility and investigation through to construction and commissioning of large-scale production wells.
Your Impact in this Position
You will play a central role in delivering technically robust groundwater solutions, supervising complex site operations and ensuring safe, efficient project execution. Acting as a key link between site teams, clients and technical specialists, your work will directly influence project performance, programme and quality. You will also contribute to client relationships and support the continued growth of groundwater services.
Core Capabilities
Technical Delivery & Hydrogeological Expertise: Support design and delivery of groundwater abstraction investigations and pumping test analysis.Interpret site data and contribute to technical reporting and licensing support
Site Supervision & Borehole Engineering: Oversee drilling, construction and testing of large-diameter, deep production wells. Coordinate specialist surveys including geophysics and CCTV inspections
Project & Operational Management: Manage site activities to programme, mitigating risks and avoiding delays. Coordinate subcontractors and ensure efficient, high-quality delivery
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting: Support abstraction licence applications and ensure compliance with UK and Irish regulations. Produce clear, accurate interpretative reports
Client Engagement & Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders during site operations. Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while taking ownership of deliverables
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Degree in geology, earth sciences, engineering geology or similar, with experience in groundwater investigations and borehole construction. Strong understanding of pumping test analysis software such as Aquifer Win32, Aquitest and abstraction licensing is required..Experience supervising large-scale well installations and using industry software is advantageous. Excellent communication skills and a full UK driving licence are essential.
Working Environment
Based in Manchester, with projects across the UK, Ireland and occasionally internationally. This role is primarily site-focused, with a flexible, hybrid approach when not on site. Travel is required, including periods away from home depending on project needs, with flexibility to balance office, site and remote working.
