We operate a highly successful groundwater business which operates within our geo-environmental team of c. 100 professionals. We operate nationally across the UK and Ireland and manage several high-profile groundwater frameworks with water utility companies and contracts including the GeoEnergy NI – Geothermal Demonstrator, Northern Irish Private Water Supply Framework, Northern Ireland Water Consultancy Framework and Environment Agency National Borehole Decommissioning Project.
Due to our recent success in securing several long-term hydrogeological and groundwater resource evaluation and implementation projects such as the united Utilities £170M Ground Investigation Framework and Thames Tideway Tunnel Environmental Compliance Monitoring Contract means we have a unique opportunity for an ambitious Groundwater Site Engineer or Hydrogeologist to join us and support the management of several Key Client Accounts. The successful candidate will be joining us at an exciting time in our growth and development as a business. This is a consultant or senior position at either Consultant or Senior grade (depending on your experience) with a focus on the technical delivery, management, growth and development of our groundwater services.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, confident and self-motivated, with strong technical and commercial skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills. This position would suit those with an already successful career in groundwater consultancy, specifically in the area of groundwater resource development. Within this role will be given the opportunity to further develop your project management and leadership skills in a fast growing and dynamic consultancy environment.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in providing professional advice and site supervision in respect of the feasibility, design, investigation, testing, procurement and construction / implementation of large public and private supply borewells / production wells. Our preferred candidate would have proven experience as a site engineer, supervising the survey, testing and construction of large (up to 1m in diameter and 300m depth) production wells. Testing will include but may not be limited to the supervision and coordination of down-hole geophysical and CCTV surveys, the testing of water wells up to flow rates of up to 7MLD. The groundwater focused professional will preferably have groundwater resource exploitation experience in the UK and Ireland. You will be expected to have a sound technical understanding of the UK and Northern Irish groundwater abstraction regulatory and licensing regime and be able to demonstrate experience of managing site works of a similar nature and preferably scale.
You will be based out of our Manchester office but will have the opportunity to work on hydrogeological projects across Great Britain and Ireland, as well as internationally. Other Tetra Tech office locations will be considered for experienced candidates.
You will need to have a flexible approach to time management and be willing to travel to sites where the work will be undertaken.
Skills & Experience Required:
A minimum of a good honours degree in earth sciences, geology, engineering geology or similar. The ability to communicate to senior management and customers during site works. The ability to analyse information, take actions to avoid the delay to works and to present your observations and recommendations logically and accurately both verbally or in reports.
- Experience in designing and procuring groundwater abstraction investigations, desk based analysis of pumping test data for confined and unconfined aquifer systems
- Experienced at managing production borehole / borewell surveys, testing and exploratory drilling works.
- Proficient at writing interpretative reports in support of abstraction licence applications for new individual private and public supplies as well as licences for new well fields.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft packages including Word and Excel.
- Experience of using pumping test analysis software such as Aquifer Win32, Aquitest and other.
- Excellent communication skills.
- The ability to work as part of a large multi-disciplinary team, as well as being willing to work individually.
- You will need to be a team player willing to work away from your base office, with a high level of personal responsibility and adaptable and flexible approach to different project requirements.
- Full clean driving licence
Desirable
- The candidate will preferably have significant relevant experience, or an equivalent level of expertise , in a similar role.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft packages including Word and Excel;
- Borehole design, testing, pumping test analysis and construction.
