Join Tetra Tech as a Senior or Principal Civil Engineer and take a leading role in delivering high-impact, technically complex projects within a collaborative, forward-thinking environment.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

Based in our Edinburgh office, this role places you at the heart of our Northern Ireland team, working closely with colleagues in Belfast while delivering projects across Scotland, Northern Ireland and beyond. You will lead the design and delivery of civil infrastructure schemes, contributing to multidisciplinary projects and supporting the growth of our regional capability. This is a varied and technically engaging position with clear opportunities to progress into leadership.

Your Impact in this position

You will play a key role in delivering projects from concept through to completion—balancing technical excellence, commercial awareness and client engagement. Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will ensure projects are delivered on time and to budget while maintaining compliance with quality and safety standards. You will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, contribute to business development, and mentor junior engineers, helping to build a strong and capable team.

Core Capabilities

·         Technical Delivery & Design: Lead civil engineering design using industry standards and best practice. Produce high-quality outputs across drainage, infrastructure and site development

·         Project & Commercial Management: Manage project resources, budgets and timelines effectively. Contribute to fee proposals and monitor project profitability

·         Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with clients, contractors and regulatory bodies. Secure approvals and represent the team with professionalism and credibility

·         Collaboration & Team Development: Work seamlessly within multidisciplinary teams across the UK. Mentor graduates, apprentices and junior engineers

·         Quality, Safety & Professional Standards: Champion health, safety and technical excellence. Ensure compliance with all relevant standards and procedures

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering (BEng or MEng), you will bring around 5–10 years’ industry experience. Chartered status (or close to achieving it) is expected. You will have strong knowledge of design standards and experience using tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro/Info Drainage and Microsoft Office. Strong communication skills, commercial awareness and a proactive approach to professional development are essential.

Working Environment

This role is based in Edinburgh with close integration into our Belfast team. You can expect a hybrid working model, typically 2–3 days in the office, with flexibility to support project and team needs. Travel across Scotland and Northern Ireland may be required, offering exposure to a diverse project portfolio.
