Ready to take your botanical expertise further?
Join a market-leading environmental consultancy where your technical skills will shape real-world outcomes across nationally significant projects — while you grow as a specialist, mentor and future leader.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

As a FISC Level 4+ Botanist, you will strengthen and expand botanical expertise within a multidisciplinary consultancy, supporting projects across sectors including residential, energy, transport and government services. Working as part of a national ecology team, you will deliver high-quality botanical surveys, assessments and technical advice, collaborating closely with planners, engineers and environmental specialists to provide integrated, science-led solutions.

Your Impact in this position

You will lead and contribute to a diverse portfolio of botanical work — from UKHab and NVC surveys to condition assessments and rare plant studies — influencing project design, mitigation and habitat management strategies. You will play a key role in developing others, sharing knowledge, supporting training initiatives and contributing to industry-leading practice, including research and publications where appropriate.

Core Capabilities

Technical Excellence

  • Deliver high-quality botanical surveys, assessments and reporting across a range of habitats and project types
  • Apply strong field identification skills and ecological understanding to inform robust, defensible outcomes

Project Delivery & Collaboration

  • Work seamlessly within multidisciplinary teams to support project lifecycle from tender to delivery
  • Build effective relationships across ecology and wider technical teams

Knowledge Sharing & Mentorship

  • Support and mentor junior ecologists, including Identiplant training and FISC development
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence

Innovation & Research

  • Integrate scientific thinking into project work, contributing to research and industry publications
  • Identify opportunities to enhance biodiversity and deliver best-practice solutions

Professional Growth & Leadership

  • Take ownership of your development within a defined career pathway
  • Progress towards technical leadership and, where desired, people management responsibilities

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

FISC Level 4+ (or equivalent) with strong botanical survey experience across UK habitats. Proven experience in NVC, UKHab and condition assessments is desirable. A degree in ecology or a related discipline, alongside membership of CIEEM (or working towards), is expected. Strong report writing, communication and mentoring skills are advantageous.

Working Environment

This role offers flexible, hybrid working across a network of UK offices, with typically 1–2 days in the office depending on project needs. Fieldwork will be required seasonally across the UK, with travel managed to minimise time away from home. Flexible working patterns, TOIL and remote working are fully supported, enabling you to balance project delivery with personal commitments.
