Purpose & Scope of the Role
As a mechanically biased Associate / Associate Director you will play a key role within the Leeds building services team, leading the delivery of mechanical engineering design solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects. Reporting to the Engineering Director, you will oversee both the technical and commercial performance of projects, ensuring designs meet client objectives, regulatory requirements and Tetra Tech quality standards.
You will manage project teams, review and verify engineering outputs, and ensure that building services designs integrate effectively with other disciplines including electrical, civil, structural and sustainability specialists. The role spans the full project lifecycle, from early concept development through to detailed design and delivery.

In this role, you will help shape technically robust, low-carbon engineering solutions while building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. You will influence project outcomes through technical leadership, guide engineers and technicians in delivering high-quality work, and contribute to winning new projects through bids and client engagement. Your expertise will strengthen the Leeds team’s capability and support the continued growth of Tetra Tech’s building services practice.
Core Capabilities
Technical Mechanical Engineering Leadership - Lead mechanical building services design across complex projects; Apply deep expertise in HVAC, energy modelling and sustainable design; Oversee calculations, design outputs and technical reviews
Project Delivery & Commercial Management - Manage projects from concept through to completion; Control technical quality, programme delivery and budgets; Support resource planning and project performance
Sustainable & Low-Carbon Design - Drive sustainable design strategies aligned with net-zero targets; Apply knowledge of renewable technologies and energy-efficient systems; Support clients in delivering low-carbon building solutions
Client Engagement & Business Development - Build and maintain trusted client relationships; Lead and contribute to bids, tenders and project interviews; Provide technical advice to clients across diverse sectors
Leadership & Team Development - Manage and mentor engineers and technicians; Promote collaboration across multidisciplinary teams; Support the growth and development of the Leeds engineering team
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
You will hold a degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering and be a Chartered Engineer with a recognised professional institution. You will bring strong experience delivering building services projects across multiple sectors, with expertise in tools such as IES, Revit and Navisworks. A strong understanding of sustainable and low-carbon engineering design is essential, alongside excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
Working Environment
This role is based in Leeds, located in the heart of the city’s professional district. Flexible working arrangements are encouraged, and travel may be required depending on project needs. Due to the nature of some projects, eligibility for UK security clearance (SC) is required.
