Senior Energy System Distribution Engineer - South Africa
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities KSAs required:
- Undergraduate degree in electrical engineering or other engineering field with demonstrable energy sector experience
- Senior position requires minimum of seven years of relevant experience
- Principal position requires at least 15 years of relevant experience
- Commercial awareness and ability to develop business through existing and new workstreams
- Knowledge of protection AC and DC key diagrams, and wiring and terminal diagrams
- Ability to return to first principles and academic literature to resolve complex technical problems
- Ability to be adaptable and able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Will confidently build and maintain external and internal relationships
- Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills in English
- A systematic, logical approach to problem-solving
- Pay strong attention to detail and demonstrate accurate work
- Flexible approach to work, and ability to prioritize and manage time effectively to meet deadlines and client needs
- Interface with clients, suppliers and contractors, as well as undertake training
- Willingness to travel internationally from time to time
- Strong research capabilities, using a variety of primary and secondary sources
- Strong organizational, teamwork, and technical skills
Valued but not required KSAs:
- A postgraduate degree in electrical engineering or related field with demonstrable energy sector experience, preferably in a technical role with experience in project implementation
- Prior experience implementing donor-funded projects in developing countries, preferably in Africa
- Prior experience as a consultant or work for a donor agency/international organization
- Knowledge of renewable energy technologies
- Knowledge or familiarity with French, Portuguese or Arabic is a plus
Physical demands and work enviornment:
- Office setting, with an estimated 20% regional and international travel
