0-5 years of experience developing some or all of the following: mitigation plans, comprehensive/master plans, economic development plans or strategies, land use plans, resiliency plans or strategies, local laws and/or ordinances, and other related documents. Experience with the following tasks:

 

  • Working as part of a project team
  • Reviewing and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data and information
  • Reviewing plans, reports, and other documents for relevant content
  • Preparing written documents and reports based on data and information reviewed
  • Interviewing local officials and other stakeholders; Participating in and conducting meetings; Working with a wide variety of stakeholders from the public and private sectors
  • Using geographic information systems (GIS) and other mapping capabilities to develop analysis

Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of hazard mitigation, community and regional planning, economic development and land use planning, and/or emergency management. Ability to communicate effectively with clients, the general public, elected officials, business leaders, and a variety of other stakeholders. Analytical skills related to qualitative and quantitative data. Technical and non-technical writing. Information and data analysis. Public speaking. Multi-tasking and the ability to support multiple projects simultaneously. Must be able to drive a motor vehicle and pass a motor vehicle records check.  B.S degree in urban/regional planning, resilience, emergency management, public administration, or a related field. A Master's degree preferred. Submittal of a writing sample illustrating personal content and style of planning, analysis, and/or technical writing. Submittal of college transcript required. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM), or other certification is preferred. Willingness to pursue relevant certifications is required.

 

Must be able to travel by road, rail, and/or air throughout the northeast United States and other parts of the country.  The position's primary work environment is an office environment. The position will require occasional travel to client sites and other locations to conduct meetings, site visits, etc. Some occasional evening and/or weekend work and/or travel will be required.
