The program
Australia Awards Indonesia (AAI) is managed by Tetra Tech on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Australia Awards is an integral part of Australia's development cooperation program with Indonesia and has enjoyed strong support from both governments for more than sixty years. Australia Awards addresses two key challenges: to fill a gap in the pool of individuals with the higher-level capacity to contribute to Indonesia's development; and the need for a strong deep relationship based on mutual understanding between Australia and Indonesia.
The role
Under the supervision of the Public Diplomacy Manager, the Public Diplomacy Coordinator supports the planning and delivery of inclusive public diplomacy events and activities that contribute to advancing the Australian Government’s public diplomacy objectives in Indonesia. The role is responsible for coordinating stakeholder engagement, supporting promotional and outreach initiatives, managing public diplomacy resources and merchandise, and contributing to the visibility and positive public image of Australia Awards and Australia Global Alumni.
The position works collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders, including the Australian Embassy and Consulates-General in Indonesia, Indonesian government representatives, universities, alumni, scholars, vendors, and the wider public.
Key responsibilities
- Support the planning and delivery of inclusive public diplomacy events and promotional activities that advance Australian Government public diplomacy objectives in Indonesia
- Coordinate engagement and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including DFAT, government representatives, universities, alumni, scholars, partners, vendors, and the public
- Support the development, production, and distribution of public diplomacy and promotional materials in accordance with branding guidelines
- Manage event coordination tools, production schedules, merchandise, and vendor relationships to ensure effective and efficient delivery of activities
- Contribute to monitoring, reporting, and evaluation activities, including stakeholder data management and analysis to inform future public diplomacy initiatives
- Supervise casual staff and provide creative ideas and operational support to strengthen program visibility, engagement, and organisational objectives
Selection criteria
- Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, marketing, English, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training
- Minimum five years’ experience in public diplomacy, communications, media, public relations, or promotional event coordination
- Strong understanding of stakeholder engagement and experience building relationships with government, universities, partners, and diverse audiences
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in both English and Indonesian, including report writing and presentations
- Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple activities, competing priorities, and deadlines effectively
- Strong understanding of social media trends, digital communications, and visual presentation principles
- Creative, proactive, and collaborative approach with strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and leadership skills
