The Opportunity

  • Full-time position until 30 June 2027
  • Location: Port Moresby, PNG
  • Reserved for PNG citizens only

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Manager, People Services, the HSSE Coordinator will implement and oversee health, safety, security, and travel protocols across Australia Awards PNG. This role ensures a safe and secure working environment, facilitates compliant travel, and drives risk management strategies. The Coordinator supports emergency preparedness, incident response, and continuous improvement in safety and security practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement health, safety, and security policies and procedures tailored to AAPNG in collaboration with the Human Services Manager
  • Conduct security briefings, staff inductions, and annual refreshers
  • Plan and coordinate emergency responses and drills, including evacuation procedures and leading first aid and fire warden teams
  • Collaborate with the Assets and Logistics Coordinator to register and maintain safety and security assets, maintain office and transport safety, and resolve related issues.
  • Coordinate with other members of the Staff Health Committee to provide information and conduct awareness which promote staff well-being.
  • Assist in coordinating travel security and logistics planning for travel by program staff and consultants.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip briefings
  • Perform other duties as reasonably requested by DFAT and Tetra Tech

Selection Criteria:

Qualifications:

  • Essential: Post-school qualification in security, risk management, or occupational health and safety
  • Valid First Aid Certificate and current driver’s license
  • At least 8 years’ relevant experience, including 5 years in an international development context
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365
  • Knowledge of PNG’s security context, legislation, and key stakeholders
