The opportunity

  • Apply research, monitoring and evaluation skills to inform system improvements
  • Work closely with the Ministry of Education and Training to drive performance improvements and support their reform agenda
  • Up to 120 days, with significant in-country inputs.

Vanuatu Australia Education Support Program Phase II (VAESP II)

The Vanuatu-Australia Education Support Program (VAESP) is funded by the Australian Government and implemented in cooperation with the Government of Vanuatu.

VAESP is dedicated to enhancing the quality, accessibility, and management of early education in Vanuatu. We work closely with the Ministry of Education and Training to implement initiatives that promote inclusive education, child-centered approaches, and support for children with disabilities. 

Key responsibilities

As the Education Systems Reform Specialist, you will work alongside Ministry of Education and Training counterparts and the VAESP team to:

  • Lead a ‘positive deviance’ study to identify high-performing schools in Vanuatu and uncover the drivers behind their success
  • Translate findings into practical recommendations for improving learning across the primary school sector
  • Analyse and support the improvement of MoET’s performance monitoring systems, including the Vanuatu Education Management Information System (VEMIS), in collaboration with key sector partners

You’ll play a key role in shaping evidence-based education reform while strengthening local capability, fostering inclusion, and promoting donor coordination.

Selection criteria

As the Education Systems Reform Specialist, you will work alongside MoET counterparts and the VAESP team to:

  • Proven experience in system-level education reform and student learning improvement strategies
  • Proven collaboration skills across national and sub-national government levels
  • Analytical and innovative thinking combined with an ability for direct ‘in the field’ implementation
  • Experience working in the Pacific is highly desirable
