Upcoming opportunities
We are seeking to develop a roster of committed and qualified professionals for potential up-coming technical assistance assignments in the water and sanitation sectors. Roles may span the full project cycle, from upstream identification and feasibility through to implementation support, monitoring and capacity-building. Typical work may include:
· Identification and development of public sector water and sanitation infrastructure projects, including fact-finding missions, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, and independent reviews of existing studies
· Sector assessments, needs analyses and investment prioritisation to identify and plan viable water and sanitation investments
· Preparation of project documentation for internal and external approvals
· Environmental and Social (E&S) advisory services, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs), Resettlement Action Plans, biodiversity and cultural heritage assessments, and compliance monitoring
· Climate risk and adaptation assessments for water systems, including physical climate hazard analysis, vulnerability assessment, and climate-resilient infrastructure design
· Impact measurement and results framework development
· Procurement and contract management support
· Implementation oversight and monitoring
· Capacity building and institutional strengthening of utilities and water authorities
Expertise required
We welcome applications from experts across the following disciplines:
· Public sector water supply management and sanitation engineering
· Hydrological and water stress analysis – modelling water availability, stress and vulnerability to inform infrastructure design and investment
· Climate adaptation and resilience in water systems – drought-resilient water resources, nature-based solutions, energy-efficient pumping systems, flood-resilient infrastructure, climate-smart wastewater treatment etc.
· E&S safeguards – EIAs, ESIAs, ESMPs, resettlement planning
· Procurement and contract management, including FIDIC-based contracts and advising on procurement and contract management of infrastructure projects
· Implementation support of infrastructure projects, including technical quality assurance, monitoring of project, and acting as a Lender’s Engineer or Independent Engineer to verify compliance.
· Public finance, blended finance and infrastructure economics, including experience with development finance institutions and multilateral development banks
· Gender equality, social inclusion and GEDSI advisory in the WASH space
· Stakeholder engagement, community consultation and capacity building.
We are particularly interested to hear from experts with demonstrated and significant experience in the following geographies:
· East Africa: Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Somalia
· Southern Africa: Angola, Botswana, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe
· West & Central Africa: Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Senegal
· North Africa: Egypt, Morocco
· Europe: Ukraine
· Asia: Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Pakistan
Candidates based in these countries are strongly encouraged to apply
Full proficiency and experience working in English is a requirement. French, Portuguese and relevant local language skills (for countries listed above) are a significant asset across all disciplines.
About you
· Relevant professional experience in public sector water supply, sanitation or related infrastructure sectors
· Demonstrated experience in one or more of the above-mentioned country contexts.
· Familiarity with donor-funded technical assistance assignments and/or with development finance institutions
· Experience with international E&S standards
