Purpose & Scope of the Role
As an Associate Flood Modeller, you will provide technical leadership for a specialist flood modelling team, driving excellence across a diverse portfolio of projects. You will oversee the development, execution and review of hydraulic and hydrological models, ensuring all outputs meet rigorous quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Working closely with project managers and clients, you will guide project delivery from concept through to submission, ensuring compliance with Environment Agency standards and UK best practice. Alongside technical delivery, you will mentor team members, contribute to business growth, and promote continuous improvement across flood risk services.

Core Capabilities
Technical Expertise
Lead complex hydraulic and hydrological modelling using Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, ESTRY and InfoWorks ICM
Apply FEH methodologies, rainfall-runoff modelling and flood frequency analysis
Interpret modelling outputs to deliver clear, actionable insights
Planning & Regulatory Knowledge
Ensure compliance with Environment Agency standards and UK flood risk policy
Prepare and review models for regulatory submission
Integrate planning requirements into technical delivery
Quality Assurance & Governance
Implement robust QA/QC processes across all modelling activities
Review and sign off complex models, data inputs and technical reports
Maintain high standards of accuracy, consistency and auditability
Leadership & Collaboration
Mentor and develop junior and mid-level modellers
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and project managers
Support business development, including input to fee proposals
Problem Solving & Delivery
Apply critical thinking to complex flood risk challenges
Manage multiple projects, ensuring timely and on-budget delivery
Communicate technical concepts clearly to varied audiences
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Degree-qualified in a relevant discipline with significant experience in flood modelling and technical leadership. Strong expertise in industry-standard software and UK hydrological methods is essential. Chartered status (CIWEM or equivalent) is preferred. Proven experience in regulatory submissions, client engagement and team development is expected. A full UK driving licence and willingness to obtain security clearance are required.
Working Environment
This is a full-time role within a collaborative, growing team, with flexible hybrid working available. You can expect a blend of office and home working , alongside travel for site visits and client meetings.
