We’re looking for a detail-oriented Geotechnical Engineer to support our instrumentation and monitoring programs.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and interpretation of geotechnical instrumentation used to assess ground conditions, slope stability, and structural performance. You will work closely with field teams and geotechnical specialists to ensure accurate data collection, timely reporting, and effective risk mitigation strategies.

Our work spans a variety of sectors — including mining, civil, renewables, dams and hydropower and transport infrastructure — offering you the chance to innovate, collaborate, and grow in a role with real impact.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan and oversee installation of geotechnical instruments in the field (e.g., piezometers, inclinometers, extensometers).

  • Perform regular data collection, validation, and analysis.

  • Interpret monitoring results to assess ground and structural behaviour.

  • Generate reports and provide geotechnical input to project teams.

  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards in the field.

  • Collaborate with design, construction, and operations teams to support decision-making.

What you’ll bring:

  • A Degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering, or similar.

  • Experience gained in geotechnical engineering and instrumentation and monitoring systems is preferred but not essential.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Personal time management and project management capabilities.

  • Excellent communication and reporting abilities.

You’ll also have enthusiasm and flexibility to travel (remote areas and interstate), strong collaboration skills along with the confidence to work individually when required.

If you're looking for a professional technical organisation with genuine opportunities for career growth and advancement, we’d love to hear from you. Take your career to the next level with Tetra Tech Coffey!
